At “NXT Takeover: Brooklyn” on Aug. 22 at the Barclays Center, Japanese wrestling legend Jushin “Thunder” Liger will step inside a WWE ring for the first time in his illustrious career when he goes one-on-one with Tyler Breeze.

Liger, 50, is a former WCW Light Heavyweight Champion, 11-time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion, and six-time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champion.

According to PWInsider.com, Liger will be staying in Brooklyn all weekend long to catch the “SummerSlam” pay-per-view the following night.

He’s not expected to appear Monday night on “Raw,” as his appearance at “NXT Takeover: Brooklyn” is supposedly a one-off deal.

The belief is that Liger got booked to work the special event because William Regal called him and extended him an invite.

Liger, who has made several trips to America in the past to work for Ring of Honor wrestling, apparently accepted the booking because it gave him a chance to have at least one match for WWE. He also loves traveling to the United States, which gave him even more incentive to work the show.

He recently made his first comments to the WWE Universe, which you can watch by clicking here.

Editor’s Note

Don’t let his age fool you – Liger can still go. His match with Breeze will be off the chain.
