If John Cena defeats Seth Rollins at WWE “SummerSlam” on Aug. 23, he will become a 16-time World Champion – tying two-time WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair’s all-time record.

Flair, who hosts the “WOOOO! Nation” podcast, wouldn’t be opposed to the current WWE United States Champion tying or even breaking his legendary benchmark.

“I’d be thrilled if John Cena tied my record and surpassed it,” Flair said. “I don’t lose sleep over how many times I’ve been the World Champion.”

“On top of that, if he ever does do that, I’d have to play the 21-time champion card,” he joked. “I had to leave it on an island a few times when it was too hot to take with me.”

“I think the world of John and he has been the flagship for the company for a long time and if John were to catch that title again and then he can surpass the record, I would be very proud of him.”

Editor’s Note

All records are meant to be broken. Cena is only 38 years old, so surely he has another couple of World Championship reigns left in him. It will certainly be a historic moment when he does surpass Flair, and I hope everyone is on board with it.
