At “NXT Takeover: Brooklyn” this past Saturday, Japanese wrestling legend Jushin “Thunder” Liger competed in his first match for World Wrestling Entertainment, defeating Tyler Breeze following a Ligerbomb.

It was expected that this would be Liger’s one and only appearance for the company, but that doesn’t appear to be the case any longer, as the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports.

All of the babyfaces at the special event went over, so it’s hard to use that fact to judge whether Liger’s victory would lead to future bouts. However, as the Newsletter indicates, a promoter close to those with the site tried to book the 11-time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion, but was told that Jushin Liger had signed on to work for WWE those days.

If a deal has been agreed upon, it would be similar to the one Samoa Joe and Rhyno had upon joining the brand, allowing them to work for outside companies while not being exclusive NXT talent. This wouldn’t be the case with Liger, though, if only because of his agreement with New Japan Pro Wrestling, but some leeway can be had.

Editor’s Note

I’m still pulling for Liger to join the WWE Hall of Fame class of 2016. More dates makes me a very happy man, because even at the ripe age of 50, this icon can still hang with the best of em.
