Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose were scheduled to compete in a match at WWE “Battleground,” but that was eventually scrapped after Ambrose was kicked out of the arena by COO Triple H.
According to a report by SEScoops.com, Ambrose and Rollins will get their one-on-one match at WWE “SummerSlam” on Aug. 17 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
A stipulation of some sort is expected to be added.
Rumors behind the “Battleground” bout not taking place include Rollins not being healthy enough to compete after an apparent knee injury on “Monday Night Raw,” as well as WWE wanting to save such a match for a much larger platform.
Also at “Battleground,” Roman Reigns came up short in his efforts to become WWE World Heavyweight Champion, losing a Fatal 4-Way match to John Cena (winner), Kane and Randy Orton.
All signs and logic have pointed towards a Reigns vs. Triple H match at “SummerSlam,” but it looks like that will be held off until “Night of Champions” instead.
It now appears that Reigns will be facing Orton at the event.
Plans are always susceptible to change, but this is where things stand as of this writing.
Editor’s Note
While I was disappointed in learning that fans wouldn’t be getting a Rollins vs. Ambrose match at “Battleground,” I was still pleasantly surprised with the way things turned out involving the two superstars. It was a compelling watch as Ambrose attacked his former partner, even jumping out of a car trunk in the parking lot. I also understand the logic behind Reigns vs. HHH being held off another month. “Night of Champions” is being booked as a WrestleMania-esque event with WWE Network subscriptions coming to an end.
