One of the most compelling stories in WWE this year has been the rise of former NXT Champion Kevin Owens from star in developmental to a top heel on the main roster.
Tonight at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, Owens will headline a WWE Live Event against current WWE United States Champion John Cena.
364 days ago, I said goodbye to @OfficialPWG in Reseda. Tonight, I have my first match at the @STAPLESCenter for #WWELosAngeles…Crazy! @WWE

The 31-year-old will challenge Finn Balor for the NXT Championship at “NXT Takeover: Brooklyn,” the night before WWE “SummerSlam” at the Barclays Center. Balor defeated Owens to become champion in Japan at the special “Beast in the East” WWE Network exclusive on July 4.
While not confirmed to compete at “SummerSlam” just yet, current storylines point towards Owens going one-on-one with Cesaro at the big event.
Editor’s Note
Please don’t screw this up with Owens, WWE. The submission loss to Cena at WWE “Battleground” won’t hurt if the company continues to book the former ROH Champion in meaningful feuds with elite competitors.
