As reported yesterday (July 30th) here at Wrestling Rumors, “The Apex Predator” Randy Orton was attacked by a fan following a match with Big E. Langston at a WWE Live Event in Cape Town, South Africa.
Wrestlezone.com had several eyewitnesses send in reports on what happened and who the “fan” really was.
Here is one example.
From WZ reader Jaco Breytenbach: I was at the Cape Town event last night. The incident with the fan and Randy Orton may be a work. The “fan” is a local wrestler called Blacksmith. He trains regularly (4- 5 days a week) at the gym where I am a manager. Adding fuel to the matter is that some people who were in attendance claim that the event security opened up a gap towards the finish of the Orton/Langston match where the “fan”/Blacksmith was able to enter the ring.
Several other readers chimed in with similar reports, identifying the fan as local wrestler The Blacksmith.
The WWE recently released an official statement on the attack, which you can read by clicking here.
It’s unusual for the company to publicize an attack of this nature, as incidents such as this usually tend to be swept under the rug.
There is no word yet on whether or not this incident with Orton and the fan (The Blacksmith) is simply a work (staged).
