Following the untimely death of his father, “The American Dream” Dusty Rhodes, Cody Rhodes aka Stardust took some time away from the ring to be with his family during such a difficult time.
The former WWE Intercontinental Champion made his return during the July 13 episode of “Monday Night Raw,” defeating Neville in the final bout of the night.
Several fans were upset to see Cody sticking with his Stardust gimmick, as many feel the 30-year-old should drop the character altogether as a tribute to his late dad.
Cody’s wife, WWE ring announcer Brandi Runnels, recently wrote a blog post concerning that matter, which you can read by clicking here.
Not to be outdone, Cody also chimed in via his personal protected Twitter account, saying how he’s “thankful” WWE never looked at exploiting Dusty’s death to push Stardust/Cody further.
Editor’s Note
The Stardust name clearly has some sentimental value for Cody, as Dusty occasionally wore the name on his trunks while as an active competitor. It would have been cheesy for WWE to get rid of Stardust following his death, as it would have been painfully obvious what they were trying to accomplish. Cody began something special and unique with Stardust, and he’s decided that he wants to see it through. That’s very admirable. If only some naive fans could open their eyes as well.
