The first-ever Undisputed WWE World Heavyweight Champion was revealed to be the mystery partner of Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose at “Night of Champions” Sunday.

Chris Jericho, who had been recently competing at Live Events for World Wrestling Entertainment, returned at the pay-per-view to join forces with the former Shield members in their six-man tag team match against Bray Wyatt, Luke Harper, and Braun Strowman of The Wyatt Family.

PWInsider.com reported earlier in the day that Jericho had flown into Houston to be backstage for the show, although it wasn’t known at that time whether or not he’d be used during the show. WWE’s security team was very lethargic prior to the reveal, as a fan dressed in Shield gear was able to jump into the ring.

Other names that were rumored to join Reigns and Ambrose were Erick Rowan, Kane, Randy Orton, and Baron Corbin. Jericho’s return didn’t work out as planned, though, with Y2J passing out to Strowman’s submission hold.

As he walked to the back, Jericho shoved Ambrose out of his way, perhaps teasing a future program between the two.

Editor’s Note

Jericho returns to a thunderous ovation……and passes out to the new guy, Strowman. Here’s a man who knows what’s best for business.
