As we reported yesterday here at WrestlingRumors.net, the original plans for the “WWE Payback” special event in June were for Batista to challenge Daniel Bryan for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in the main event. However, with Batista needing to take a leave of absence in order to promote his upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy film, those plans may be scrapped.
According to F4WOnline.com, if a deal with Batista can’t be reached for him to work through next month, the WWE will push forward with Kane in that aforementioned spot.
In fact, the likely main event of “WWE Payback” would then be Daniel Bryan defending the WWE World Heavyweight Championship against Kane in a ‘Buried Alive’ match.
The ending of “WWE Extreme Rules” (Kane sitting up and staring down Bryan) was done so that there would be some breathing room to assist in making that match a reality.
WWE hasn’t had a ‘Buried Alive’ match since “WWE Bragging Rights” in 2010 when Kane defeated The Undertaker.
Editor’s Note
The Undertaker has been featured in every ‘Buried Alive’ match in WWE history, so this would be a first for the company. This match is designed to write characters off of television, and with one assuming that Bryan will likely retain, could this mean a prolonged absence for ‘The Big Red Machine?’
