With the year 2016 coming to a close, WWE.com has put together a ranking of the top 25 matches of the year. Now, you might hear that and think, “Oh, it’s going to be a bunch of Roman Reigns matches and it’s going to be part of the WWE’s storytelling narrative.” However, that’s actually not the case. It’s an interesting, eclectic list that seems to be for the wrestling purists out there.
Case in point; the top two matches on the list are NXT matches. The number one match of the year according to this list? The 2-out-of-3-falls tag team championship match for the NXT title between The Revival and #DIY. The top WWE match? Sasha Banks versus Charlotte for the WWE Women’s Title on RAW. Banks and Charlotte are on the list a few times, actually, and so are AJ Styles and Seth Rollins, although not necessarily together.

Also interesting is the comments that WWE.com got from the performers in the matches. They are talking out of character, which means Sami Zayn can talk about his match with Kevin Owens without having to pretend like they actually hate each other. It provides real interesting insight into the mindset of these wrestlers. Overall, if you watched WWE, or NXT, this year, this is a list you will probably enjoy checking out.
