On January 22, 2008, after a series of vignettes, Kofi Kingston debuted on ECW and defeated enhancement talent David Owen. Originally having a Jamaican character and accent, Kingston would receive a push while in ECW, picking up wins against Rob Eckos (Robbie E), Mike Knox, and Santino Marella, before moving over to SmackDown.
10 years later, Kofi has a resume of seven tag team title reigns, three United States Championship reigns, and four Intercontinental Championship reigns. With The New Day, he can also lay claim of being the longest reigning tag team champion in WWE history.
WWE recently caught up with Kingston about competing in the company for 10 years.
“It’s really, really cool,” said Kingston. Ten years is a long time. I always tell people when you’re with WWE for a while, it starts to become the thing you’ve done the longest. It used to be, high school was four years, then college was four years, you worked at a certain job for two years and another job for another two years, then all of a sudden, you’re here … for 10 years? It’s a really weird feeling. I remember when I debuted; it feels like just yesterday, but at the same time, it feels forever ago. It’s like this bizarre time warp. But I’m grateful to be one of the guys that’s been here for that long.”
WWE also listed the top five moments of Kingston’s history:
5. Trashing Randy Orton’s car
4. Royal Rumble daredevil moments
3. Being the only person to ever win the World, Raw, and SmackDown Live Tag Team Championships
2. Being the sole survivor of the 2009 Survivor Series
1. Forming The New Day
