All over the world, Rey Mysterio has given fans a taste of his unique, one-of-a-kind wrestling style.
In World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), Mysterio is a three-time world champion, having held the World Heavyweight Championship twice and the WWE Championship once.
Mysterio is also the 2006 Royal Rumble winner, a four-time WWE Tag Team Champion, three-time WWE Cruiserweight Champion, and two-time WWE Intercontinental Champion.
The Ultimate Underdog didn’t see his only success in WWE, though. Rather, he was also a hero in World Championship Wrestling (WCW).
As part of the WCW roster, Mysterio won the WCW Cruiserweight Championship five times, the WCW World Tag Team Championship three times, and the WCW Cruiserweight Tag Team Championship once.
Mysterio was arguably the face of Cruiserweight wrestling, as he was synonymous with the “athleticism over size” factor.
This started when Mysterio was training under the Lucha Libre Mexican wrestling style.
One interesting aspect of Mysterio’s career is his inter-promotional prominence. He was successful in all three major promotions of the late 1990s: WWE, WCW, ECW.
Going back as early as 1993, The Biggest Little Man has competed in exceptional matches. Wrestling Observer Newsletter awarded Mysterio with three 5 Star Matches.
Also, WON named Mysterio as 1992 Rookie of the Year, 1996 Most Outstanding Wrestling of the Year, and Wrestling Observer Newsletter Hall of Fame (Class of 2010).
Throughout his last few years in WWE, Mysterio made appearances on-and-off. But in February of 2015, his WWE contract expired, putting an end to his 13-year tenure with the promotion.
After he left WWE, Mysterio competed in Asistencia Asesoría y Administración (AAA), as well as in the independent circuit.
Currently, Mysterio is a member of the Lucha Underground roster, where he is the Lucha Underground Trios Championship.
Rey Mysterio has racked up dozens of accomplishments, but they don’t do all the justice to his truly unique wrestling style.
