The most recent edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter took a look at the firing of a high-ranking WWE official due to poor concessions at WrestleMania XXX. Alan Rebhun, who worked as WWE’s Vice President of Venue Merchandising & Operations, was reportedly fired due to his work for WWE’s grand spectacle.
At the event, concessions were handled by a company which had gone bankrupt twice, hired by Rebhun. Said company was disorganized and poorly staffed. Even further, a large sum of the money made from concessions was reportedly missing. Because of the disastrous concessions, Rebhun was fired.
Though, during his tenure with WWE, Rebhun did a lot of good for WWE. He was responsible for raising the price of WWE’s t-shirts at live events from $25 to $30 dollars. This was a big help in boosting WWE’s per-cap merchandise numbers. Since Rebhun’s departure, these numbers have reportedly fallen.
Additionally, Rebhun was responsible for substantial cost-cutting in WWE’s merchandise operations. One of his methods saw crews travel with loads of merchandise, eliminating drop-shipping for certain shows. However, since his departure, WWE has now put drop-shipping back into effect for all shows. The move has puzzled some, as it has reportedly led to a substantial increase in WWE’s daily expenses.
Rebhun’s LinkedIn page backs up the reports. He now holds a similar position for 3 Dimensional Art, based out of Illinois.
Editor’s Note
To me, it seems like the guy was canned for one giant mistake.
