On Sunday, Nov. 23, 2014, something that many wrestling fans thought they would never witness occurred. Sting made his debut in World Wrestling Entertainment. Since 2001, when WWE purchased WCW, many thought it was a certainty that WCW’s icon would make the jump to the greener grass. Little did they know, Sting coming to WWE would be an extremely long waiting game, one that would not come to a conclusion for more than 13 years.
Despite reports surfacing about a possible Sting debut on Friday, Nov. 21, WWE still shocked many within the wrestling world by having Sting appear during WWE programming at “Survivor Series.” Sting has been partnered with WWE since June of 2014, first being announced as a playable superstar in the “WWE 2K15” video game. Additionally, WWE would produce a Sting DVD, and even WWE licensed Sting merchandise.
Sting debuted during the 2014 “Survivor Series” pay-per-view. During the main event of the night, Sting helped Team Cena defeat Team Authority. When Dolph Ziggler and Seth Rollins were the last two combatants left, Triple H did everything in his power to retain power. Then, it would be “Stinger” making his WWE debut, staring the WWE COO down in the ring. Sting ducked a punch, and hit a “Scorpion Death Drop” on “HHH.” He then put Ziggler on top of Rollins, brining The Authority out of power.
A huge reason in Sting never lacing up the boots for WWE was his nine year tenure with TNA. In June of 2003, the “Stinger” signed on with the then upstart wrestling promotion, and would remain with the company through February of 2014.
With Sting officially in WWE, there is simply no telling what is to come. All we know is to never say never in the wrestling industry, as wrestling hell froze over on Nov. 23, 2014.
