Back when Rob Van Dam initially returned to WWE at the 2013 “Money in the Bank” pay-per-view, reports surfaced that his contract would have him work in 90-day time periods. This allows “RVD” to take time off every now and then, in order to focus on other projects.
Soon after his on-screen return to WWE on the April 7 edition of “Monday Night Raw,” there were rumblings that Van Dam would be around for a bit longer than 90 days. Instead, it was reported that Van Dam would be working for WWE through “SummerSlam.” Following WWE’s biggest summer spectacle, Van Dam would then take time away from the squared circle.
With “SummerSlam” right around the corner, these reports have been echoed by PWInsider. The website is reporting that there has been a lot of talk within WWE of Van Dam taking another break from the company following “SummerSlam.”
Interestingly enough, as of this writing, Van Dam is not scheduled to compete at “SummerSlam.” However, after the Aug. 12 edition of “Main Event,” it appears that he and Sheamus will challenge for the WWE Tag Team Championship in a Triple Threat match. The duo would likely face RybAxel (Ryback and Curtis Axel,) in addition to the defending champions, The Usos.
If the match were to occur, it would likely be part of the SummerSlam Kickoff, the pre-show to the pay-per-view. Last year, Van Dam also found himself in the pre-show match at “SummerSlam.” He challenged Dean Ambrose for the United States Championship, but won by disqualification, failing to capture the title.
Editor’s Note
Assuming Van Dam departs after “SummerSlam,” this go around was not too good for Van Dam. Nothing about this run was that memorable.
