Former and recently departed WWE Superstar Mason Ryan recently spoke with Chris and Shawn of the radio program, “Under the Mat.” During the interview, Ryan spoke about a number of topics such as his constant comparisons to Batista, his debut in WWE, and working in the ring with wrestling boots.
Ryan, who was reportedly released due to a lack of improvement, said the following about the difference between wrestling in wrestling boots as opposed to sneakers:
“*laughter* If you don’t have good foot work, it can be tricky, but if you know what you are doing, then it shouldn’t be too much of a problem. Boots tend to be heavier and hard to move in, so if you add a pair of sneakers or tennis shoes, it’s almost better because they’re lighter.”
The one-time FCW World Heavyweight Champion also talked about his debut with WWE, as part of the Nexus Invasion:
“I got to interfere in a match with John Cena and CM Punk. It doesn’t get much bigger than that. I really loved working with those guys, Punk and now Bray Wyatt, also Curtis Axel and David Otunga. I got to have Punk as a mentor. During live events, I got to watch ringside as Punk and Cena worked in matches and learned from that it was a incredible experience.”
Ryan was also asked about how often people compare him to Batista, due to their similarities in appearance:
“Yeah man, I get it all the time, I have long hair now, and I didn’t think I looked like him but people would come up to me and say, “Hey! You know who you look like?” I say, “let me take a guess.” I see the resemblance facially. It’s quite strange.”

Editor’s Note
The constant Batista comparisons for Ryan must be difficult to deal with. I always thought Ryan got a bit of a bad wrap. Hopefully things go well for him outside of WWE.
