It has been common to see major WWE names get involved in the past with any of WWE’s developmental systems in order to help push talent to their limits. However, with Thursday’s “NXT Takeover” special event, WWE officials reportedly did not hold back on preparing its future stars for the event.

Michael “P.S.” Hayes, who has spent time as head of creative for “Friday Night Smackdown,” was brought in to speak with all of the NXT talent prior to the show, according to PWInsider.com. It was described as a “pep” talk of some sorts, attempting to get the talent ready for the show.

Furthermore, WWE also utilized other agents to prepare the talent for the big event. Dean Malenko, regarded as one of the best technical wrestlers of all-time, was present and worked with many of the wrestlers to help prepare them for the event. Alongside Malenko, former WWE Tag Team Champion and Straight Edge Society member Joey Mercury helped talent in the ring get ready for the show.

The event was widely considered a success backstage, and WWE on-screen COO Triple H noted the company will plan to live NXT specials quarterly on the WWE Network.

Editor’s Note:

Malenko is one of the best to ever put on boots, and Mercury is a great wrestling mind. It’s awesome to see WWE investing a lot of stock in these “minor league” events, because the payoff is exponentially higher.
