On Tuesday, Jan. 27, two days after the 2015 “Royal Rumble” pay-per-view, WWE announced that it had finally hit the one million subscribers mark for the WWE Network. Following the good news for WWE, its stock saw a noticeable increase.
In the recent edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer talked about how the good business news for WWE may affect its effort in attempting to re-sign current WWE World Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar. Meltzer reported that due to the good WWE Network figures, WWE has changed its views on offering Brock Lesnar another WWE contract.
Now, the company is reportedly considering offer Lesnar a deal with a similar payout from his current deal. In the past, with poor WWE Network numbers, it did not make a lot of sense business wise to pursue re-signing Lesnar at the same rate.
Additionally, Meltzer briefly hit on the latest rumblings regarding whether or not Brock Lesnar will stay with WWE, or jump ship to UFC. Meltzer noted that Lesnar could likely get more money in UFC or MMA, but may very well stay with WWE under a similar deal to the one he has now. While WWE will likely pay less money, Lesnar will have more longevity in WWE, possibly factoring into his decision.
Editor’s Note
Brock Lesnar proved at the “Royal Rumble” that he can be the company’s top-guy and one of its best, if not, the best champion. WWE needs to break out the bank for him, and offer him a “per date” deal, maximizing Lesnar’s appearances.
