On its corporate website, WWE recently released preliminary buyrates for the 2014 editions of the Royal Rumble and Elimination Chamber pay-per-views. Worldwide, the Royal Rumble, which featured the return of Batista, garnered 445,000 buys. On the other hand, the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view obtained 203,000 buys for the company.
Regarding the 2014 Royal Rumble buyrate, the preliminary number is down from the previous year’s buyrate. Last year, the Royal Rumble, which featured the return of The Rock in a WWE Championship match, received 512,000 buys. While the decrease is noticeable, it should come as no surprise to WWE, as it would have been hard to come close to last year’s number without such a marquee main event like last year. Compared to the 2012 edition of the pay-per-view, the buyrate is slightly up, as the 2012 edition had a buyrate of 438,000.
In regards to the Elimination Chamber buyrate, the number is slightly down from the previous year’s buyrate. Last year, the pay-per-view garnered 213,000 buys, as The Rock defended his WWE Championship for the first time that year. The 2012 edition of the pay-per-view only obtained 178,000 buys.
