Daniel Bryan will make his much-anticipated return to the ring on the Jan. 15 edition of “Smackdown,” which features the show moving to Thursday evenings. Bryan announced that he will compete in the 2015 Royal Rumble match, on the Dec. 29 showing of “Monday Night Raw,” and would make it seem like that would indeed be his first match back with WWE.
As previously reported, Bryan is already slated for WWE live event matches, which occur prior to the “Royal Rumble.” These matches will see Bryan face the likes of Luke Harper and Kane. Initially, it was believed that these live events would be Bryan’s first in-ring action since the 2014 “Extreme Rules” pay-per-view on May 4. However, the showing of “Smackdown” will be taped on Jan. 13, prior to the live events which advertise Bryan.
WWE aired an advertisement during the Jan. 8 showing of “NXT,” which airs on the WWE Network. The ad showcased Bryan’s meteoric rise to WWE World Heavyweight Champion. At the end of the ad, it was revealed that Bryan will return to in-ring competition on the Jan. 15 “Smackdown” on Thursday night, beginning at 8 p.m. EST.

Very good move by WWE. This should draw even more viewers for the “Smackdown” episode, and its transition to Thursday nights.
