The everlasting situation between CM Punk and WWE continues to unfold. Last week, over WrestleMania weekend, some of our WrestlingRumors.net team was in New Orleans, La. for the event. There, WWE was still selling CM Punk merchandise, despite his departure from the company.
In the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, it was revealed that Punk is still receiving paychecks from WWE, due to CM Punk merchandise sales. As we previously reported, Punk was still a top-five WWE Superstar in terms of moving merchandise, during the month of March.
Now, though nothing is official, it is believed that he has still remained in the top-five among merchandise movers for WWE. Up until his departure, Punk was second in merchandise sales, trailing only John Cena. In March, Punk fell to third, a spot which he may still have, according to Wrestling Observer Radio.
In the past, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin noted that he still received money from merchandise sales from WWE, after he walked out on the company in 2002. It appears this is the case for Punk, likely meaning he didn’t leave much money on the table.
Editor’s Note
I believe it speaks volumes that Punk still moves so much merchandise, despite his noticeable absence on WWE programming. With money still coming in, it appears Phil Brooks will continue to enjoy life outside of WWE.
