The 2015 Stanley Cup Final recently wrapped up, seeing the Chicago Blackhawks top the Tampa Bay Lightning in six games. For the Blackhawks, this was their third Stanley Cup victory in the past six seasons.

Before the series even began, WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan, who now resides in Tampa Bay, created a stir when he told ESPN the Blackhawks are in “a lot of trouble.” Hogan made things worse when he later appeared on NBC Sports Network, just prior to the first game of the Stanley Cup Final. After being asked about former WWE star and Chicago native CM Punk’s tweets about the Lightning fan base being unable to pack an arena, Hogan spoke:

“Let me tell Punk one thing. With coach Conner behind the bench, Stamko, that whole front line, I would not want to be a Blackhawk in Tampa Bay when the Lightning strikes.”

Unfortunately for Hogan, the Tampa Bay Lightning are coached by Jon Cooper. Additionally, they are captained by leading goal scorer Steven Stamkos, and typically, any hockey team’s biggest offensive threat is referred to as the “first line.”

As noted, CM Punk went off on Hogan, appearing on CSN Chicago to ridicule him, while also taking to his Twitter account. Hogan even snapped back at Punk on Twitter.

Punk was again on CSN Chicago on Thursday, June 18, as part of the network’s coverage of the Blackhawks Stanley Cup parade. When anchor Pat Doyle brought up Hulk Hogan, a “Lightning fan,” Punk again cleared the air.

Courtesy of Greg Wyshynski of Yahoo Sports, Punk said the following:

“No he’s not. That’s the problem I have with that. If I’m a Lightning fan, I’m embarrassed they hitched their wagon to a guy like that. Doesn’t know Stamkos’s name, the captain’s name. Icing to him is something he eats three times a day.”

“If I’m a Lightning fan, I want someone to better represent my team. They’re a hell of an organization. That paints them in the wrong light.”

Editor’s Note

I have it on good authority that Hulk Hogan is also a big fan of the division leading Tampa Bay Rays, who are led by manager “Kevin Casey” and “Ethan Longoria, brother!” He is also a huge Tampa Bay Buccaneers fan, who is excited for quarterback “Jameis Witten” to revitalize the franchise.
