In preparation for Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao, which will go down as boxing’s highest-grossing fight to date, many sports outlets have ran various stories on the May 2 showdown. Some pieces have included insight from WWE talents. For example, Bleacher Report recently sat down with WWE COO Triple H, who is close with Mayweather.
Additionally, on April 29, Steven Muehlhausen of Sporting News published a story on the fight with quotes from WWE commentators Jerry “The King” Lawler” and Booker T.
Booker T thinks Pacquaio will put up a fight, but still come up short:
“(Manny) Pacquiao is going to come out there and do his best. But I think Mayweather is going to go out there and beat him in all facets of the fight. I think he’s going be a better defensive and offensive fighter. I think if it even got into a brawl, Mayweather would even win that due to the clinch. I think Mayweather is going to win the fight.”
Lawler, on the other hand, thinks it is too close to call:
“Oh my gosh. Ordinarily, in almost any fight I can think of, I would pick a winner because I would have somebody in mind. I have no clue. Both of these guys are so evenly matched. I just got to say it’s a tossup. I’m going to enoy it. I’m going to watch it. But I have no clue who will win. In all honesty, I don’t really have a favorite even though Floyd Mayweather has come to work with us in WWE. He’s a great character and a cool guy to be around.”
“I have nothing against Manny Pacquiao. I like his style and I like his fights. To me, this is going to be one of those fights where I just watch two guys beat the hell out of each other and I’m just going to sit back and have fun watching it.”
