At the “Battleground” pay-per-view on July 20, Chris Jericho and Bray Wyatt squared off. Jericho snuck away with the victory, after hitting a “Codebreaker” on Wyatt in the closing moments of the match. The result was surprising to some, who believed that Wyatt would beat Jericho. According to F4WOnline, this was the original plan for the match.
The website reports that the finish of the match was changed on the day of the pay-per-view. Instead of having Wyatt reign supreme, Jericho would now be penciled in as the winner of the bout. Additionally, the website notes that it was likely a Vince McMahon decision. One sign pointing towards McMahon’s involvement is that during creative meetings on the day before the pay-per-view, Wyatt was reportedly still planned to defeat Jericho.
As seen on the July 21 showing of “Monday Night Raw,” the feud is still going on. It is expected to run through the “Night of Champions” pay-per-view in September. There, Chris Jericho will likely take another hiatus from WWE. As we previously reported, Jericho’s run is expected to end in September, as his band, Fozzy, has more of a full-time schedule after the pay-per-view.
Editor’s Note
If it was indeed Vince McMahon who changed the decision, good call. While Jericho doesn’t need to win on a pay-per-view, if he does have a three match feud with Wyatt, he should win at least once.
