At the “Battleground” pay-per-view on July 20, Rusev narrowly defeated Jack Swagger by way of countout. Because of the finish of the match, many fans assumed that the two would square off again at “SummerSlam.” However, following the July 21 showing of “Monday Night Raw,” that may not be the case, according to F4WOnline.

The website is reporting that word within WWE is that the feud may have been dropped already. During “Raw,” Rusev faced The Great Khali in a very short match. Rusev was selling an injured ankle due to Jack Swagger putting him in the “Patriot Lock” at “Battleground.” However, the commentary team made no mention of Swagger nicking him up. In fact, at one point in the match, the commentators said that Rusev defeated Swagger with the “Accolade,” which was not the case.

On the other hand, Jack Swagger didn’t have a match on “Raw,” and neither him or Zeb Colter, his manager, appeared.

There is speculation that the feud may have been dropped due to heat on Lana for her promo at “Battleground.” Many media outlets took her and WWE to task for her line that Russia is being blamed for “current events.” The line insinuated that Russia is being unfairly blamed for the tragic crash of Malaysian Airlines Flight 17. The action generated so much buzz, WWE had to release a statement on the matter.

Additionally, it is noted that the recent backlash on Lana is why she did not receive much mic time on “Raw.” As seen on the show, The Great Khali’s entrance interrupted her presumed promo before it began.

It’s unclear where Rusev will go if the feud with Swagger is indeed dropped. Lana did note that Rusev could take down Brock Lesnar one day, following Paul Heyman’s closing words on “Raw:”

Editor’s Note

It would suck if WWE does indeed drop this feud. Jack Swagger has never been more over in his career, and the Rusev character is just getting started.
