At WWE “Battleground,” The Miz emerged victorious in the Intercontinental Championship Battleground Battle Royal, eliminating Dolph Ziggler for his third-reign with the belt.

According to a report by SEScoops.com, Miz wasn’t always written in to win the match. In fact, Ziggler was the one set to become Intercontinental Champion before Tuesday of last week.

It was decided at a producers meeting that plans were going to change and Miz would win instead. With all of the media appearances he’s set to make for his Marine 4 film, it made sense from a PR standpoint.

The report notes that Miz will now move on to work a program with Sheamus, possibly leading to a unification match at WWE “SummerSlam” to merge the Intercontinental and United States Championship belts together.

Ziggler won’t be out of the picture entirely, though. He’s expected to work with Miz after the feud with Sheamus.

Editor’s Note

The Miz has had opportunity after opportunity to make a name for himself in the mid-card after his run three years ago as WWE Champion. His gimmick as a Hollywood prima donna could eventually get over, but I’ve run out of hope. Personally, I would have liked the belt to go to someone else. Cesaro? Ziggler? Anyone else.
