A new report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has provided a backstage update on Sting possibly signing with WWE soon.
Annual rumors claiming World Wrestling Entertainment is trying to sign Sting to a contract have existed for well over a decade and never yielded results. However, 2014 may be a different year for both parties.
According to Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE officials are confident in bringing Sting to WWE for the first time in his career. WWE officials have had this mindset for months, with talk of Sting joining WWE increasing within the company. However, Sting first had to work out his TNA contract for 2014 prior to negotiating with WWE.
Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Newsletter took to F4WOnline to discuss the confidence among WWE. He is reporting that the two sides are already talking about monikers, or possible ring names for Sting. One of the discussed monikers is, “A Man Called Sting,” according to Meltzer.
The second half of TNA’s “Genesis” special airs Jan. 24. During the event, Sting will take on TNA World Heavyweight Champion Magnus with his career on the line. The episode was taped a week prior along with the first-part of the special, so Sting’s fate has already been determined.
Only time will tell if Sting does indeed join WWE, as nothing has been finalized or announced as of now. The 54 year-old is best known for his time with WCW during the “Monday Night Wars,” becoming a six-time WCW World Heavyweight Champion during his tenure with WCW.
