The Rock appeared in front of the live crowd in Los Angeles, California both before Monday’s Raw went on the air, and after it went off the air. Why was he there? He was there to film a scene for the movie Fighting with my Family, which will be about Paige’s journey to WWE. But, he did more than film a scene during his appearance.
Before the show went on the air, The Rock addressed the live crowd, and told them what he was there to do. Then, as he was about to head backstage, Vince McMahon confronted him, and “fired” him. But, the real big news came after Raw went off the air, when The Rock stood in the ring with a live mic, and he called CM Punk. Unfortunately, Punk didn’t answer, but The Rock, along with the live crowd, left the ex-WWE star a voicemail.
If you watch the video, which can be seen below, a referee says something to The Rock right when he’s about to call Punk, and The Great One responded by saying “my mic better not be killed.”
According to Bryan Alvarez of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Vince McMahon wasn’t happy with The Rock’s decision to call CM Punk in front of the live crowd, and he tried to put an end to it.
“The Rock was on the phone for a long time, CM Punk was out walking his dog, and tweeted a big thank you to Los Angeles. The crowd was going nuts chanting his name, then Vince sent a referee down to the ring to tell Rock to stop calling CM Punk.”
So it looks like the WWE chairman wasn’t exactly thrilled with the “let’s call CM Punk” dark segment.
There was a cameraman in the ring shooting The Rock’s appearance, so WWE was clearly intending on putting it up on their YouTube page. But, as of right now, it hasn’t been uploaded, and Rock deciding to call Punk is probably the reason why.
