Kenny Omega just had what will probably end up being the best match of 2017 with Kazuchika Okada at Wrestle Kingdom 11, and, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Omega’s contract with New Japan Pro Wrestling will expire on January 31.
There’s a ton of speculation regarding Omega’s future, and whether or not he’ll end up signing with WWE after he becomes a free agent. Last week, the NJPW star sent out a tweet saying that he’s planning to step away for a while, and consider all of his options.

A few days later, John Cena posted a photo of Omega on his Instagram account, which got the “Omega to WWE” rumors started.

Cena did the same thing last January with AJ Styles, and, as we all know by now, Styles ended up coming to WWE shortly thereafter.
In a recent chat with Sports Illustrated, Omega commented on his future, signing with WWE, and possibly wrestling John Cena.
“I’m leaving to consider my future options. Returning so quickly after a huge loss would be unwise. I’m finding my next plan of attack in wrestling rather than blindly rushing forward just to be in a ring.
“John Cena is one of the great WWE talents that I respect most. If I were to end up there, working with someone of his caliber would certainly be a goal and jive with my mission of changing wrestling. I’m glad to be on his radar, but I haven’t made any decisions regarding my future yet.”
As previously mentioned, Omega’s contract with New Japan won’t expire until January 31, so he won’t be able to make his WWE debut in the Royal Rumble on January 29.
