Last week, it was there was an advertisement which said that The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels will appear on the January 9 episode of Monday Night Raw in New Orleans, Louisiana. At the time, the ad looked a little fishy, but the Wrestling Observer Newsletter later confirmed that both WWE legends will appear on next Monday’s show, and they’re now both being advertised on WWE’s official live events page.
One question that’s been asked since word got out that The Deadman will return next Monday night is: why is he returning to Raw instead of SmackDown? When he returned to television back in November, he made it pretty clear that he was a part of the blue brand. Well, on Sunday’s Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer answered that question.
“[The Undertaker] is such a big star that he can be on either show when it’s important for ratings. The January 9 show is going head to head with the college football championship, which usually does 25 million viewers.
So, you need something big, and this thing about carefully defined Raw and SmackDown, and no one can be on both shows stuff — that goes out the window when you’re going head to head with a game like that.”
According to Cageside Seats, The Undertaker will announce that he’ll be a part of the 2017 Royal Rumble match during his January 9 Raw appearance, which everybody pretty much already knew.
