Towards the end of last year, it finally looked like we were going to get the long-awaited John Cena vs. Undertaker match at this year’s WrestleMania, and at one point that was the plan. However, plans changed, and both men were given new opponents.

According to Cageside Seats, the Cena vs. Undertaker match was scrapped because WWE felt that Cena proposing to Nikki Bella at WrestleMania was going to be a much bigger deal than their original plan. Also, Vince McMahon wanted Undertaker to put over Roman Reigns before he retired.

In terms of mainstream publicity, John Cena proposing to Nikki Bella was a much bigger deal than if the former 16-time World Heavyweight Champion would’ve wrestled The Undertaker. Also, a Cena vs. Undertaker match really serves no purpose, as neither guy would gain from a victory.
