Finn Balor vs. Roman Reigns

There are a ton of rumors surrounding the impending return of former Universal Champion Finn Balor. Will he return at the Royal Rumble? Will his return be held off until February or March? Those questions are yet to be answered, but, according to Cageside Seats, The Demon King won’t be a surprise entrant in the 2017 Royal Rumble.

Let’s assume that the Cageside Seats story is accurate, and Balor doesn’t return at the Royal Rumble — will that mean that he won’t get a shot at the Universal Championship upon his return? Nope. He will, and he doesn’t need to win the Rumble for it to make sense.

Balor never actually lost the title, as he was forced to relinquish it due to injury. So, him challenging for the title upon his return makes sense.

This match also depends on the result of next month’s Universal Championship match between Kevin Owens and Roman Reigns, which Reigns will presumably win.

If WWE does book Reigns vs. Balor in Orlando next April, who will win? That’s an interesting question — the fans will almost certainly boo Reigns in that match, and they boo him even harder if he wins. So, WWE’s best option may be to have Balor defeat Reigns, and win back the title that he never lost.
