However, Owens entered the “Royal Rumble” match at number eighteen and was able to eliminate and ruin the debut of AJ Styles.
That elimination garnered a lot of heel heat for the former IC Champion, but when Sami Zayn made a surprise entrance into the match, and Zayn got a small taste of revenge against Owens by eliminating him from the “Royal Rumble”.
Kevin Owens may have lost the Intercontinental Championship feud to Dean Ambrose, but WWE has a lot of booking opportunities for him going forward onto the Road to Wrestlemania.
The rumor going around is that WWE is planning a feud between Owens and Styles after last night’s events, but Sami Zayn’s reemergence could bring that rivalry back at a moment’s notice.
Both matches are excellent choices, and a smart fan’s dream come true, but why must WWE choose one when we can have them both?
WWE had the choice to allow a triple threat scenario with Owens vs. Styles vs. Zayn for “Fastlane” that would make for an incredible match that establishes two new characters to the WWE Universe.
After that, WWE can go full steam into Owens vs. Zayn at Wrestlemania and an established AJ Styles can move onto something else on the grandest stage of them all. Everyone wins.
