There is most likely a lot of confusion about what happened after American Alpha lost the NXT Tag Team Championship to The Revival at NXT Takeover: The End.

Shortly after the loss, Chad Gable and Jason Jordan were attacked and laid out by two monstrous men that were nameless, but Corey Graves revealed the identity of WWE Hall of Famer Paul Ellering, who watched the destruction.

What you saw was the debut of the “Authors of Pain” in NXT and the reemergence of legendary manager Paul Ellering, who is one of the greatest wrestling managers in the history of the business.

If you’re unaware, Ellering’s great claim to fame is managing The Road Warriors, but he did much more than manage. He was a total package outside of the arena as well.

He negotiated contracts and handled any beefs or issues with Animal and Hawk outside the ring. He was the glue that held that team together for a decade before Sunny became their valet later on, which more people recognize.

The two monsters that he returned with are Sunny Dhinsa and Gzim Selmani, who have been working NXT live events for quite some time now. Under Ellering, they’re being called the “Authors of Pain.”
