In the past, the General Manage role has been the position of power when it comes to running WWE television shows. Even when there were “guest hosts, there was a general manager “running” the entire show.
However, this is a new era. After the brand split, it’s obvious that Stephanie and Shane McMahon will be running both Raw and SmackDown, but their titles are going to change.
According to a report from RingSideNews.com, the people in charge will be known as Chief Operating Officers or COOs for short. The title of General Managers will not be used after the brand split.
There is no confirmation as of this writing about who will be “running” Raw and SmackDown, or what role the “COO” will have on the show after July 19th and Battleground.
On paper, it’ll be the same as it always was on WWE programming. The role of the COO will be to make matches and bigger decisions that push the show forward. Only now, it will be for the brand, not just one show.
Hopefully, there is more change coming to authority figures in WWE after than brand split than just changing the title of the role.
Do you think authority figures are needed on WWE programming at all?
