Not everyone knows that it was actually WCW that pushed the PPV limits of the wrestling industry to one event a month. It was a phenomenal idea to capitalize on the popularity of the sport and maximize the profits of the business.
That’s how it’s been for the last twenty years. Generations of wrestling fans have grown up with WWE programming that features builds feuds and storylines on a month to month basis.
According to DailyWrestlingNews.com, there has been discussions about the WWE calendar year reducing the number of pay-per-views and having more WWE Network specials much like “Beast in the East” or “King of the Ring”.
Nothing is official as of yet, and there is no word on how many PPV’s WWE would have per year, but there is some talk of adding more than five more specials a year as well as what the Network already has with NXT and other live specials.
WWE already has a lot of content every week as it is, so reducing monthly PPV’s by a few numbers may give the product a different feel during specific months.
Do you think it’s a good idea to cut back on WWE PPVs every year?
