Last night the finals of the first annual “Cruiserweight Classic” determined that TJ Perkins is the only man left standing as the winner of the CWC tournament.
While Gran Metalik overcame Zack Sabre, Jr., Perkins overcame an intense battle with Kota Ibushi and a war of attrition with Metalik that gave him the victory after both men submitted to the TJP Clutch.
The really interesting dynamic of the match is Triple H emerged just before the opening bell to reveal the new Cruiserweight Championship that will debut on Perkins’ shoulder on Raw next week.
WWE has now established a Cruiserweight division for Raw and established TJ Perkins as the face and champion of the division going into next week’s debut.
Raw’s Cruiserweight division is going to be filled with at least ten talents from the CWC and more will likely make appearances, but no one knows how that’s going work on weekly RAW television.
Regardless of how Raw works, you can’t help but immediately miss the fun that the CWC was every week, and the excitement it had that will now be brought to Raw. TJ Perkins became a superstar tonight. The hope is the WWE Universe responds well to the division and the CWC comes back for another series next year.
Do you think TJ Perkins deserved to win the Cruiserweight Classic?”
