When the Finals of the WWE World Cup tournament came down to Dolph Ziggler and The Miz at Crown Jewel, most people were curious if an angle was happening. A heel vs. heel dynamic did not make sense, but Shane McMahon came in to replace Miz and beat Ziggler to win WWE’s World cup tournament and he became “The Best in the World.”
The WWE Universe isn’t pleased with the angle of Shane winning the WWE World Cup and feel slighted that he’d win over Dolph Ziggler, Miz, or another active competitor. In theory, there’s a legitimate issue to address but it’s also clear that Shane’s victory is the beginning of a major angle on SmackDown Live that should lead to his next big rivalry.

According to a report from Wrestling Observer Radio, the plan is for the World Cup to be the first step towards a major heel turn for Shane. There have been some rumblings about The Miz turning babyface and feuding against him. That would be an interesting turn of events because WWE could have accomplished the same result having Miz win the tournament. By all appearances, it seems that McMahon vs. Miz is happening soon.
WWE officials could use the opportunity to have Dolph Ziggler feud with Shane. Drew McIntyre still has something brewing with Braun Strowman and Ziggler’s direction has been in question over the past couple of weeks. A feud with Shane McMahon could do a great deal for “The Show Off’s” character heading into 2019 and WrestleMania season.
The WWE Universe might not be thrilled with Shane McMahon’s victory at Crown Jewel, but the plan is to turn it into something bigger. If the plan was to turn the fans against Shane, it’s working perfectly.
