After losing a match to Bobby Lashley at Money in the Bank, Sami Zayn didn’t appear on Monday Night Raw. Shortly afterward, it was reported that he was dealing with nagging injuries and needed some time off. That report claimed Zayn has been struggling with a shoulder and knee injury. Unfortunately, his injuries could not have been much worse.
The former NXT Champion did an exclusive interview with WWE.com and revealed he has suffered from two torn rotator cuffs. Sami underwent surgery on his right shoulder this week, but he’s going to have to wait another month or two before having another surgery on his left shoulder. The early timeline for his in-ring return is roughly a year.

“The Underdog from the Underground” brought up WrestleMania 35 as the benchmark for his return to the ring. However, the WWE Universe has seen some wrestlers sit on the sidelines as healthy scratches because there wasn’t enough time to bring them into a storyline before WWE’s grandest stage. Unfortunately, only time will tell for his return.
During the interview, the idea of Sami Zayn staying on television to cut promos came to light, but he couldn’t confirm anything because it’s really not his decision to make at the end of the day. WWE officials also have a habit of not using performers for that purpose on WWE television. If that were the case, Dean Ambrose would be on Raw right now.
The worst part of this injury is Sami Zayn was just starting to hit his stride as a heel on Raw. He carried the feud with Bobby Lashley for weeks mostly through his work on the microphone. Not being able to watch him perform for upwards of a year is the greatest tragedy of the week. Unfortunately, the only thing we can do is wish Sami the best.
