During SmackDown 1000, Rey Mysterio returned to WWE with a big win over Shinsuke Nakamura. It was a perfect start for him on SmackDown Live. With Mysterio back full-time with the company, a lot of people were upset that he didn’t make his appearances during a couple of live events over the weekend in Boston and White Plains, New York.
A lot of people were speculating that Rey was already injured or had some kind of issue backstage with WWE officials. However, it’s been reported by PWInsider that Mysterio didn’t appear in Boston or New York because of a scheduling conflict. Details are scarce on Mysterio’s schedule, but he’s not injured and he doesn’t have any issues with WWE.
It’s unfortunate that fans for those events were expecting to see Rey Mysterio and were disappointed. He’s signed with the company for at least three years so there should be another opportunity for those fans to see Rey wrestle live. Moving forward, Mysterio is scheduled for SmackDown Live tonight and he will appear during a MizTV segment.
There have been rumors about Mysterio entering the US Title picture and feuding with Nakamura heading into Survivor Series. He’s qualified for the “World Cup” tournament at Crown Jewel. The MizTV segment is suggesting that a new rivalry with The Miz is the creative direction for him. That may be something to keep him busy until Crown Jewel.
Rey Mysterio has a unique star power that WWE officials have wanted to replace for a long time. As a result, multiple experiments have failed and having Mysterio back on SmackDown Live is a great opportunity for everyone. With a few years of runway, there are unlimited possibilities for Mysterio to cement his legacy as a future Hall of Famer.
