WrestlingRumors reported a few days ago that Renee Young would be on commentary for the ‘Crown Jewel’ event in Saudi Arabia. Given the strict treatment of women in the country and WWE’s own women being forbidden from appearing on the show, a lot of people are wondering why Renee Young was given the okay to appear on the broadcast.
According to a report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the reason why she can be on commentary for the event is Young has agreed to adhere to Islamic culture. WWE has negotiated with the Saudi Sports Authority and Renee might have to wear a hijab or at least show virtually no skin in her outfit whatsoever. Apparently, Renee has also been given special travel arrangements and accommodations while she’s in Saudi Arabia.

It seems WWE officials are being extremely careful to ensure Renee Young’s appearance doesn’t ruffle any feathers with the Saudis. There’s been a lot of attention on how WWE has taken women completely off the show. Having Renee on the broadcast is a huge step forward, but the odds are she won’t even be seen on the camera for most of the event.
On paper, Young being the only woman on the show kind of highlights the problem. Her presence becomes more noticeable. You have to wonder why WWE officials would want to draw so much attention to her, but Renee was likely given the opportunity to decline the spot and decided to appear on the event. The hope is that Young can just do her job during Crown Jewel and the entire situation can be another part of the show. aa aa
