After “Summerslam,” AJ Styles has been running rampant on SmackDown and has catapulted off his victory over John Cena into a WWE Championship match with Dean Ambrose this Sunday at “Backlash.”

Since then, John Cena hasn’t appeared on SmackDown or WWE programming at all. He’s been wrestling dark matches and live events, so many people are wondering why he’s not on WWE TV.

It was reported awhile ago that Cena would be missing SmackDown’s “Backlash” PPV, but most people assumed it would be for reasons having to do with his projects outside WWE, including “American Grit.”

However, it is being reported by CageSideSeats.com that John Cena hasn’t been appearing on SmackDown Live or this Sunday’s “Backlash” PPV because he’s currently working on WWE’s International Tour in China.

Cena will be working events in Manila and Shanghai. Since WWE is working hard to push their relationship with the Chinese audience and Cena has always been interested in the culture, it seems like a no-brainer.

It’s being rumored that if AJ Styles wins the WWE Championship at “Backlash,” the feud with John Cena will continue, and it’ll most likely be a rematch of title vs. career between Cena and Styles later this fall.
