Cena could win it back from Alberto Del Rio. It’s not the first time he’s done that to Del Rio. However, there is something else that Cena could do then win back the US title or go after the WWE Championship. He’s never had a great Tag Team title run, and that’s a huge weakness in his resume that’s never been addressed.
It would be extremely difficult to argue against Cena’s wrestling ability after having the best technical year of his career. He can wrestle anywhere on the card. It’s only a matter of time for him to become a sixteen time WWE World Champion. In the meantime, why not fix a glaring issue with his career?
John Cena is a four-time WWE Tag Team Champion. Those four reigns combine for a total of seventy days, and he had four different partners. Two of those title reigns were less than a day long. His runs with Batista and Shawn Michaels weren’t bad, but they took a backseat to bigger matches with both men.
Historically speaking, he’s not a good tag team wrestler. That’s not a big deal, but it would be nice to see him fill another void in his career as he has with the US title.
The current division was The New Day, The Usos, and The Lucha Dragons as the big-time players with quite a few teams waiting in the wings like The Wyatt Family, The Ascension, or even The Primetime Players.
John Cena forming a team with a young face partner would only give the tag team division more spotlight, new match-ups and more. Cena’s influence on the division would elevate everyone around him and give the rub to whoever his partner would be.
It’s just another option WWE has to make John Cena the most well-rounded and accomplished WWE superstar of all time. After that, I could believe in him to beat Ric Flair’s record for World title reigns.
