Women’s wrestling is a huge topic right now in the industry. The division is gaining prestige and appreciation that it has always deserved.
It’s becoming a norm so much that others such as people at Netflix want to get in on the topic at hand and show the past of women’s wrestling and a lot of the struggle they endured to get to this point.
According to DailyWrestlingNews.com, Netflix is beginning to develop a women’s wrestling series called GLOW (Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling), which will be based on the wrestling promotion.
The current owner of the promotion Ursula Hayden, who is also known as Babe The Farmer’s Daughter, recently signed a deal with Netflix to develop a full new season of the series.
There are few details thus far since it was just announced, but it’s being rumored that the creator of hit shows Orange Is The New Black and Weeds Jenji Kohan will be the showrunner for the series.
The pilot is currently being worked on, and its success will most likely lead to a full season being approved by Netflix after they have something to watch.
On paper, “GLOW” will be from the perspective of struggling actress in the 1980’s, who land roles on a cult women’s wrestling show – GLOW. The focus will be on the struggles through the “many highs and lows of the (not so) glamorous world of wrestling.”
