Back in the late 90’s, Ken Shamrock was a big-time player on WWE programming. He came from the MMA and was heavily featured at the beginning of UFC and was the company’s first Superfight Champion.
In 1997, he debuted with WWE as “The World’s Most Dangerous Man” and went on to become WWE Tag Team Champion, a two-time Intercontinental Champion, and the 1998 King of the Ring. Shamrock had a great career in WWE until he left the company in 1999.
It’s been assumed that Ken Shamrock left WWE to continue his fighting career, but the latest interview he did with Wrestlinginc.com reveals that there was far more to his WWE departure than just continuing his MMA career.
You can read and listen to the full interview right here. Below is what Shamrock had to say about leaving WWE in 1999:
“There was a lot of stuff happening there. For me, I’d kind of hit this wall where I was on the roads so much that I was missing my kids’ football games and wrestling matches and the dances they were going to. I had five kids, so it really hurt me to miss that many things. I felt that was a good time for me to figure out how to stop being on the road and be with my family… It just seemed like I spent so much time on the road, I missed my kids growing up, and I couldn’t handle that.”
