Kalisto Becomes the New United States Champion

In another shocking moment on Monday Night Raw, Kalisto pulled off a great upset only moments ago when he defeated Alberto Del Rio for the United States Championship clean.

When the title match was teased over the weekend, few expected Kalisto to pull off the surprising US title win over Del Rio on Raw tonight.

Especially when the news broke that Kalisto will be Del Rio’s opponent at the “Royal Rumble”. However, now we know that Alberto Del Rio will be invoking his rematch clause on Kalisto to reclaim the US title.

A few months ago, there was a rumor that WWE was disappointed with the luchador for failing to fill the void of the top Latino superstar for the company that “forced” WWE to resign Alberto Del Rio last fall.

However, John Cena was most likely going to reclaim the US Championship for himself at the “Royal Rumble”. With his injury and the injury to Sin Cara, WWE thought now was the time for them to give Kalisto a payoff based on the fantastic run he’s had the last few months.

It’s going to be interesting to see how WWE builds the championship in Kalisto’s hands. We’ll most likely see Sin Cara vs. Kalisto at some point, but we can all agree that the US title is a lot more meaningful in the hands of Kalisto than they were in Del Rio’s over the last few months.
