Hiroshi Tanahashi is one of the most popular wrestlers on the planet. New Japan Pro Wrestling isn’t easily accessible here in the United States, which makes it difficult for an entire country of wrestling fans to see him perform.

The long story short is he’s their most popular face and has really been carrying the promotion since AJ Styles, Shinsuke Nakamura, and others left the promotion. However, any performer can only go for so long before their body catches up to them.

According to a report from Wrestlezone.com, Tanahashi will be taking a much-deserved and needed break and has been pulled from the rest of New Japan’s ongoing Best of the Super Juniors dates.

That will keep him out of the ring through at least mid June, but it’s possible that his time off could be extended after the injury angle took place during Super Juniors’ opening night.

That angle saw Kenny Omega smash Tanahashi’s arm many times between a ladder with the assistance of The Bullet Club, so that could buy Hiroshi as much time off as he needs.

As of now, he’s still schedule to challenge Omega for the IWGP Intercontinental Championship at the annual Dominion show on June 19th. Until then, Satoshi Kojima will be replacing Tanahashi in all of his scheduled Super Junior tour matches.

Do you think wrestling fans in the United States should be more knowledgeable of New Japan?
