In some shocking and unexpected news, it looks like the debate between which gimmick is better Cody Rhodes, or Stardust is over.

The latest news from The Rhodes Family is that Cody Rhodes has officially asked for his release from WWE, and it looks like it has been granted. Cody posted the following from his personal Twitter account:

“(1/2) The past ten years have been quite the trek, but as of earlier today I have asked for my release from @WWE

(2/2) I’ll speak further on the matter shortly. Thank you to all the pro-wrestling/sports entertainment fans worldwide. Thank you”

It’s not surprising per say that Cody Rhodes would want to be pushed by the company to be a bigger star due to his family name and history with the company, but asking for his release is a surprise to be sure.

He’s been in WWE since 2006. During his decade as a WWE superstars, he’s a two-time Intercontinental Champion, a six-time WWE Tag Team Champion with four different partners.

He’s been one of the most consistent and frankly, underrated performers in WWE for many years, and he’s made several gimmicks work with great success.

There is no word on what is next for Cody Rhodes in the wrestling industry or his life, but he was a great performer, and his talent is certainly going to be missed.
