It has been rumored for a little while that WWE was planning a heel turn for The Usos, but the expectation was that their turn wouldn’t drastically change the future of SmackDown.
Last night on SmackDown, The Usos lost in the semifinals in SmackDown’s Tag Team tournament to crown the new SmackDown Tag Team Champions, but Jimmy and Jey Uso’s loss was the last straw.
After losing the match to American Alpha, The Usos attacked Chad Gable and Jason Jordan and successfully injured Gable to the point where their status for this Sunday’s “Backlash” was questionable.
Shortly after SmackDown went off the air, Shane McMahon revealed on “Talking Smack” Gable’s injury is significant enough that American Alpha will not be able to compete in the finals of the tournament at all.
Therefore, The Usos will get a second chance to earn their spot in the finals. The Usos will face The Hype Bros and the winner will move on to the finals against Heath Slater and Rhyno at “Backlash.”
At this point, it’s very likely that The Usos are going to walk out of “Backlash” as SmackDown’s first Tag Team Champions. A heel turn could be the thing that brings their momentum back.
Are you glad to see The Usos turn heel on SmackDown?
