Yesterday, the news broke that Cody Rhodes, who has been wrestling in WWE for over a decade as many different characters, requested his release from the company.

A lot more details have come to light over the past twenty-four hours, but they were mostly about Cody’s decision to move on from the company and before released before his contract expired this summer.

According to WWE.com, the company has granted Rhodes release, and he has been officially released by WWE as of this writing.

WWE.com made the following statement on the company website:

“WWE has come to terms on the release of Cody Rhodes as of today, May 22, 2016. WWE wishes Rhodes the best in all his future endeavors.”

Cody Rhodes personally posted the following on Twitter to give his side of his release from the company:

A previous report from DailyWrestlingNews.com made the claim that Cody had thought about his wrestling career very seriously and made the decision to leave WWE after roughly a decade.

The report said that his contract was set to expire at some point this summer, and WWE has going to let it expire and quietly come to terms with Rhodes.

However, Cody didn’t want to wait and simply wanted to be done with the company now rather than wait a few months stuck in the midcard. Honestly, the entire situation is very similar to the recent one with King Barrett.

Do you think Cody Rhodes will do well outside of WWE if he continues to wrestle?
